Built From the Ground Up
When I came back to the farm, it needed a lot of work. I had returned from Pietermaritzburg due to my health, and after a major operation, the farm became the place where I could recover and reset. At the time, I didn’t expect it to turn into anything more than that.
During that period, two calves came into my life, and that’s really where everything changed. I fell in love with raising them — the connection, the care, and the way animals respond to you. It gave me a sense of purpose again and slowly pulled me deeper into farming.
Around the same time, I had a completely different frustration. I ordered chicken from a big franchise, and it was so bad that I stopped eating chicken altogether. It didn’t taste right, didn’t feel like real food, and after that, I avoided it for about six months.
Eventually, I decided to try raising my own chickens. That decision changed everything. The difference was immediate fresh, natural, and full of flavour. No shrinkage, no strange taste, just proper chicken again. I absolutely fell in love with it.
From there, the farm started growing step by step. What began as a small recovery journey turned into something much bigger. Today, we raise chickens, sheep, and pigs, focusing on producing proper, honest meat without shortcuts.
We now live off the farm, eat from the farm, and supply customers who are looking for real food the kind that actually tastes the way it should.
Rusty Meadows is built on that idea. This isn’t factory farming it’s personal.
